GLOUCESTERSHIRE pace bowler Craig Miles has been shortlisted for this year's LV= Breakthrough Player award, the accolade which recognises emerging young talent in the domestic four-day game.

Miles, originally from Purton in Wiltshire, joins Jack Leaning (Yorkshire), Ollie Robinson (Sussex), Tom Curran (Surrey), Luke Wood (Nottinghamshire) and Alex Davies (Lancashire) on the list of nominations.

Miles has already taken 36 wickets in the county championship this season.

Previous winners of the award include current England sensation Joe Root, who lifted the inaugural prize in 2012.

Root said: “The LV= County Championship helped me massively. It’s a breeding ground for international cricket players and I was lucky to learn from some of the best in the system.

“The talent in this country is getting better and better as you can tell by this year’s LV= Breakthrough Player Award shortlist.

"I think it’s great that the new crop of younger players are starting to come through."

The shortlist was selected by an expert panel which included ECB performance director David Parsons, former England player Mark Butcher and one-time Australian bowler, now coach at Yorkshire, Jason Gillespie.

The 2015 LV=CC Breakthrough Player will be decided by the public, who can vote for their winner at www.LV.com/cricket later in the season.
