Victory Cup and F J Hinds Salver

LEE JOHNSON came from off the pace to snatch the Men's Victory Cup at Cirencester Golf Club over the weekend after what he described as his best ever competition round.

The Victory Cup was played over 36 holes on Saturday and Sunday and Johnson opened with a net 73.

But despite intermittent rain showers on Sunday, Johnson stormed round in a net 67 to post an excellent winning aggregate of 140.

Simon May’s two rounds of net 69 and 73 respectively enabled him to clinch second place with an aggregate 142.

Gavin Allen and Jordan Laycock tied on an aggregate 143, both with rounds of net 73 and net 70 but Gavin took third spot on countback.

The best net scores for round one came from Andrew Miles (currently honing his skills with the B team) and Tom Waller with fine net 68s.

Played alongside the Victory Cup was the F J Hinds Salver for players of handicaps 16 and above.

The salver was won by the fast-improving Richard Hicks with an aggregate net score of 145 (74, 71) proving that the handicap committee still has plenty of scope left to reduce his handicap to reflect his true ability.

David Michael, (another B team regular) finished second with rounds of net 77 and 79.
