POULTON-based Performance Cycles cycling club have been enjoying a fine run of form recently.

U16 rider Will Crofts led a storming weekend of results for the club with a fantastic win at the Bristol GP in front of a packed crowd.

Racing was fast and furious from the outset and it wasn’t long before a break of seven riders formed and distanced themselves from the bunch.

Coming into the final three laps, Will upped the pace once again splitting the breakaway.

Tactics when sprinting from a small group are never easy and Will was able to position himself perfectly before starting his sprint from a long way out, holding off for a convincing win.

Sunday then saw another day of racing, this time with the senior men’s team in action in Winchcombe, for the latest round of the season long Cotswold League.

With Dan Guest back in the starting line-up after a month away in France, he was keen to test his form and attacked almost from the gun.

With no one willing to take up the chase he went clear, extending his lead at one point to nearly two minutes.

Back in the bunch, Dan’s team mates waited and watched and with 15 miles gone, another break went clear with Performance Cycles junior rider Jack Thompson going with them, playing the perfect team mates role.

The break finally caught Dan at about half distance and they then worked well together to ensure the peloton never saw the front of the race again.

Coming into the final climb, Dan attacked hard again taking two riders with him, but after his earlier efforts had left too much on the road and finished in second place.

Jack won the sprint for fourth from the rest of the breakaway and showed he is fast becoming one to watch for the future, with both great strength on the bike and great tactical awareness in races.

Dan’s return to the UK kicked off on Thursday when he rode the local ten mile time trial at Latton.

Although not in the best of health, he clocked an amazing 20 minutes and 19 seconds for the ten mile course.

The Performance Cycles triathletes have also been getting plenty of podium places as well, with Carol Clarke recently winning her age group in the Nottingham Tri and qualifying for the European Sprint Champs in Lisbon 2016.

Sarah Gunn also came second lady in the midweek Castle Combe duathlon before going on to win her age group and coming fourth overall at the Tri Ferris Sprint Triathlon at Lake 32.
