Chalford 124 all out; Cirencester II 198 all out

CIRENCESTER won their fourth league game out of seven against a determined Chalford side who were until Saturday second in the league.

Cirencester won the toss and elected to bat on a good dry pitch but were 4-2 after seven overs.

However, a battling innings from both Bram Coleman and Andrew Cooper took the Cirencester total on to 71-2 before Cooper (36) was bowled. Tom Rutter joined Coleman and his splendid straight driving mixed with some good running pushed the score on to 125 before Coleman was out.

Joel Frost, an U15 player, looked assured and showed great timing. He scored 16 runs but importantly took the score on to 144 in little time before he was out. Roberts, Thrussel and the lower-order batsmen all played a part in pushing the Cirencester score on to 198 before the close.

Jake Holmes' left arm swing then took three early Chalford three wickets bringing his league tally to 13 for the season. From the other end, Ned Langlands-Pearse and Sam Frost were unlucky not to take wickets.

Tony Wood came on for Holmes and struck with his first ball, caught at cover by Coleman, and then with his fifth ball taking the wicket of Fielding, caught by Thrussel at extra cover.

Wood's slow left arm spin then accounted for Hannan who was beginning to trouble the scorers with 28. Further good catches helped Wood complete figures of 6-23 off nine overs.

Jack Roberts came on to bowl exceptionally well towards the end and a yorker claimed the final wicket leaving Chalford all out for 124.

Victory moved Cirencester into second place in the league and they entertain fourth-placed Langford on Saturday.
