Westonbirt Sprint Triathlon

A 400m pool swim, a 24km bike and a 5km run for the Westonbirt Sprint Triathlon drew an excellent turn-out of 357 finishers.

Cirencester AC's Laurence Giffin (1:09.37) was 15th with a good swim and run but the bike phase let him down.

Lisa Stevens’s (1:15.38) running training paid off, as she was 52nd and fourth lady. Terry Ranger was 60th with another strong race and Nicola Denning (92nd) had the second fastest run among the Ciren competitors to finish third FV35.

Other finishers were Angela Dodd (219th), Trudy Compton (264th) and Lisa Carpenter (286th). Matt Boon (1:03.01) won.

White Horse, Gloucester 5km road

WITH a small entry of 51 the competitive evening event, the White Horse, Gloucester 5k, saw a resurgent Bill Leggate finish seventh overall, battling with Adrian Williams to stay ahead by three seconds. Solace for Adrian came from his second V40 prize and he set a CAC age-group record.

Fi Collings continues with her good results and was fifth lady and FV45 winner. Barbara Thomas was first FV55.

Swindon Parkrun, 5km trail

SIMON CAMPBELL, pushing a baby buggy, finished fourth overall in the latest Swindon Parkrun and Luke Buck was 40th with a PB.

Caroline Buck was second FV45 and Barbara Thomas first FV55. Andy Powell ran with daughter Kirsten, who set a PB.

Results: 1, Pete Slade (Avon Valley Runners) 17.37; 4, Simon Campbell 18.53; 40, Luke Buck 20.59; 175, Caroline Buck 24.56; 197, Kirsten Powell 25.39; 198, Andy Powell 25.41; 236, Barbara Thomas 26.51; 257, Isaac Powell 27.55. A mammoth 565 finished.

Stroud Beer Race, Minchinhampton Common, 7.2 miles, roads

A FUN, gruelling race which included some precipitous descents and nasty climbs, gave Joe Barrowclough (46.40) a well-deserved seventh place. Michael Thomas (1:09.09) was penultimate man home. Harry Bishop (40.15) of Severn AC was the winner and just 50 finished.

In a round-up of other events, Keith Firkin (43.37) was 40th out of 241 runners at the 10km Hogweed Trot in Yate; Martin Reed (34.41) won. At the Stroud Trails Half-Marathon, Georgia Croxford, in her first race for CAC, completed the extremely tough 13.1 miles in 2:16.41 to finish 63rd out of 212; Lee Rankin (1:34.26) of Stroud AC won. Amanda Hart, another Ciren first-timer, completed the Neolithic Sarson M/T Half-Marathon in 2:06.50 to finish 86th out of 130 runners; J Costley won in 1:21.53.
