THIS year's exiting Ciren 7s tournament, sponsored by Tanners Solicitors, featured 18 clubs, nine different age groups and more than 400 players.

In its 38th year, the event is believed to be the longest running tournament of its kind in the country.

The main and oldest tournament trophy, the U18/Colts Hugh Evans Memorial Shield, was won this year by Ledbury.

The final against Cirencester was drawn but Ledbury were crowned champions by virtue of playing away from home.

The Girls' U18 Somewhere Else Shield went to Wyvern Warriors (a mix of Cirencester, Supermarine and Minety).

The U16s Halcrow Shield was won by Dursley, who beat Wallingford, with the plate going to Ledbury. Cinderford girls won the U15s final.

The Alder King Shield was won by Dursley at U15s with Cinderford girls winning their U15s' final.

In addition to the team trophies, special awards were awarded to the outstanding Cirencester players at each age group, selected by the independent referees.

Sam Cater was chosen as the U18 player of the tournament and the U18 girls' title went to Helen Brown. Jamie Leach picked up the Carter Shield in the U16s' category and Ryan Brooks (U15) was rewarded for his day’s efforts.

The morning saw closely-fought matches across the U11 to U14 age groups with Ledbury taking the spoils at U11 and Cirencester finishing third overall.

Dursley topped the U12s with Cirencester again third after falling short on the countback rule.

Cirencester were unlucky not to be placed in the U13s as North Bristol took the title this year beating Marlborough in the final.

Cirencester U14s managed a hard-fought runners-up spot against the overall winners Ledbury, with Minety lifting the plate.

Cirencester player awards went to: Ashley Harrison (U14s); Jack Hughes (U13s) for the Mick Clapton Fair Play award; Ollie Claxton-Newman (U12s) and Josh Breare (U11s).

Cirencester RFC and the 7s organising committee would like to pay special thanks to sponsors Tanners Solicitors, and to Seager Welding, Alexcars and Property Pathfinder for their financial assistance, along with the referees and volunteers whose support and commitment ensured yet another outstanding and enjoyable day.
