JAMES SIMPSON-DANIEL joined the ranks of the former Kingsholm greats when a commemorative plaque was unveiled for him in the Legend's Lounge ahead of the Gloucester v Newcastle Falcons thriller on Saturday.

Sinbad, as he is affectionately known, caught the eye from the very first time he pulled on a Gloucester shirt, scoring a superb individual try against Rotherham on his debut.

A one-club man, his career spanned 14 seasons in the Cherry and White of Gloucester. He went on to make 272 competitive appearances for the club, scoring 118 tries in the process.

Due to untimely injury and illness, his England career was restricted to just 10 caps, a total that did scant justice to a player of his natural gifts.

Simpson-Daniel was forced to retire earlier this season after his latest injury setback.

His former team-mates brought off an astonishing last-gasp 42-40 victory over the Falcons as they warmed up for Friday's European Challenge Cup Final against Edinburgh.
