North Wiltshire Youth League Div Four
South Cerney 3 Stratton 1
SOUTH CERNEY YFC U12s took the top spot in their league on Sunday with a 3-1 win over fourth-placed Stratton.
With three games in hand, the Cerney lads needed just one victory to secure promotion.
Stratton battled hard but South Cerney’s training and teamwork paid off, and some good passing allowed Joe Dennish to make the breakthrough.
Felix Cheesman followed up with a second goal just before the break.
Stratton’s goalkeeper made some superb saves in the second half, but James Wickett was able to seal the win with a third strike.
Stratton grabbed a good goal towards the end, but South Cerney kept on top and were soon celebrating.
Team manager Anna Partridge was delighted for her players, saying: "I’m really proud of them. The kids and their parents have shown a lot of commitment this year. They’ve come close to promotion in the past and been disappointed, so this is a great achievement."
