HAVING placed one hand on the Division One title following victory over reigning champions CHQ United, South Cerney promptly removed it after they lost a midweek encounter 2-1 at Malmesbury Vics Reserves.

This result let CHQ back into contention in the M4 Karting Cirencester League, and they confirmed their intent to retain the title with back-to-back 4-0 victories over Siddington Sports and Highworth Town Dev.

With Cerney scraping a nervous 1-0 home win over Stroud FC, it means that the title could be decided on Saturday when Cerney visit Hatherop Park for both teams' final game of the season.

Should CHQ win at home against Stroud FC on Tuesday night they will then need to win Saturday's game to pip Cerney and claim the title.

In other games played last week and at the weekend, Intel won 2-1 at Highworth Town Dev and then drew 3-3 at home to Bibury Reserves, making them favourites to clinch fourth spot in Division One.

Bibury Reserves had an impressive 5-0 win away at Stroud FC in midweek, and The Beeches bowed out of Division One by taking a point in a 0-0 draw at Siddington Sports. Lechlade recorded a good victory in beating Malmesbury Vics Reserves 7-2.

The Division Two title could also go down to the wire, with Wroughton Town Reserves meeting Siddington Sports Veterans on Saturday. Wroughton won 5-0 in midweek against Minety with Steve Leighfield hitting a hat-trick. With Down Ampney winning 6-1 at Stratton United, the Wroughton v Down Ampney clash last Saturday was a potential title decider. In an excellent game, Wroughton came out on top with a 6-4 win.

This meant that Siddington Sports Vets were the only team that could overhaul Wroughton, assuming that they win all their remaining games. A midweek 5-1 win at CHQ Res, where Matt Richards scored twice, was followed up with a 4-2 win at Minchinhampton Town Reserves, with Dennis King scoring twice on his return from suspension. Siddington will need to have won at Minety and South Cerney Reserves in midweek before going into Saturday`s clash to have a chance of winning the title.

Tetbury Town III picked up two wins last week to move them off the foot of the table. A 3-2 win over Minchinhampton Town Res was followed by a 4-3 victory at Sherston. These wins moved them a point above Minety who now occupy bottom place.

Blunsdon FC won 1-0 at South Cerney Res, but they were then on the end of a 3-2 defeat at CHQ United Reserves. Ashton Keynes consolidated their likely fourth-place finish with a 4-1 victory at Minchinhampton Town Res, where Alex King scored twice for Ashton.
