Burford B 2.5 Cirencester B 3.5
THE new season has started with a rare and historic friendly away win – the first in almost a decade – for the Cirencester B team against their local rivals from just over the border at Burford GC.
Jonathan Wells, the B team captain, and his partner Howard Jones led by example and set the standard with a fine 4&3 win, with Duncan Barnes & Nigel Curtis following this up with a keenly fought half. Things seemed to be slipping away from Cirencester when the banker team and hot favourites Nick Brown & Brian Kelly lost 3&2.
Ground was regained when Keith Hodgson & Chris Nevin came in with an emphatic 5&3 win but both teams were left biting their nails when Leighton Rees and Steve Springthorpe lost their match 2&1 to even up the match.
It went to the wire with the final Cirencester pairing of Paul Simmonds & Mike Stopps scraping in with a magnificent 1-up win.
