GUY DISNEY became the first rider with a prosthetic leg to ride a winner when Gotoyourplay triumphed in the Men's Open at the Teme Valley point-to-point at Brampton Bryan.

The inspirational Disney, 32, lost the bottom half of his right leg after his armoured vehicle was attacked in Afghanistan in 2009.

Attempts to acquire a licence to ride with his prosthetic leg were initially denied by the racing authorities, but after two 'Walking with Wounded' expeditions with Prince Harry to the North and South Poles, and with the help of Andoversford trainer Kim Bailey, he finally gained approval last autumn.

His long-term goal was achieved when Gotoyourplay made his winning run off the final bend before cruising to victory.

Disney said: “I work for a London-based charity during the week but my home is at Laverton (near Broadway). I keep two horses with Sarah Stafford at Guiting Power and ride out at weekends.

"I didn’t and don’t want any fuss. I just wanted to get riding again and let the results speak for themselves. I am over the moon with this success."
