PERFORMANCES Cycles rider, Tony Kiss, got his season off to a flying start at the Gerry Hughes Memorial Road Race on Sunday.

Fresh from the team training camp in Gran Canaria, team members Tony Kiss and Mike Ward took to the start line of this early season test.

The race took place on a rolling 14 mile circuit in the Vale of Evesham with very windy conditions making for a tough race.

The first major action saw three riders gain almost a minute on the chasing peloton.

Realising this was a dangerous move Kiss and 10 others went clear and worked well to bridge across to the three leaders to create a group of strong riders that soon increased their lead on the chasing group to over 2 minutes.

With a lap to go Mark Corbett, from the hosting Worcester St Johns Club, attacked and went clear of the brake-away.

It was Mark Perry (Ride 24/7) and Kiss that reacted first to create what looked like the winning group.
There were fellow brake-away rides however who were not done yet and chased hard to bring it all back together with only 10 miles to go.

It was nervous times in the brake with everyone watching each other not wanting to be the first to show their hand.

With four miles to go the next attack came and put the rest of the group under pressure, but failed to split the breakaway.

When it all concertinaed back up it was Tony Kiss who road over the top to solo the final three miles to a well-deserved victory.

Further fracturing in the group behind saw Mark Corbett claim second with Elliot Jones (Paramount CRT) taking third spot.

The official Performance Cycles men’s, women’s and youth team launch takes place this coming Saturday at their base in Poulton.

The team will also be having an open day, giving people the chance to test ride bikes from team sponsor Kuota as well as De Rosa and Orro, to which everyone is invited.
