A LOCAL one day eventer has secured much sought-after national funding.

Cirencester-based Jack Stancombe, 24, has won a sponsorship prize from the pet insurer Petplan.

Having been shortlisted by an initiative set up by the company, the passionate jumper was overwhelmed to receive the funding.

“Getting local funding is hard enough but national funding is almost impossible for an amateur,” said Jack.

“I saw Petplan advertise the sponsorship prize on their Facebook page for competitive amateur riders.

“When I got on the first shortlist my friends and family had to fill in a form saying why I would be deserving of sponsorship.

“Following that I was further shortlisted and was then visited by Petplan representatives who watched me ride and chatted to me.

“Five people were put on the scheme including myself for being good ambassadors to the sport.”

Currently riding at the BE100 grassroots level, Jack’s recent success has spurred him on to set his sights high.

“I’ve only done two events so far this season, jumping double clear at Swalcliffe Park and over Easter bank holiday I came 2nd at Howick Horse Trials near Chepstow,” he continued.

“My main aim long term is to go international."
