Hogweed Half Marathon, Horton, Chipping Sodbury, 13.1 miles, roads

HOWARD EWAN put in the performance of the day among Cirencester AC members when knocking seven minutes off last year’s time to finish ninth in the Hogweed Half-Marathon.

Usually the hills winding up and down the edge of the Cotswolds are the toughest feature of this race but this time the challenge was a bitterly cold gale.

Behind Ewan there was another solid run for Ionel Iancu who led home James Widdowson and David Moss to finish in the top third of the field.

Rupert Chesmore was pleased with his sub nine-minute pace and Liza Darroch even more pleased with her FV65 first.

Downland Challenge, 20- and 40-mile trail runs, Compton, Berkshire Downs

DESPITE a fall on the muddy, hilly and slippery Downland Challenge course Jill Hadland came in 28th to finish first lady – her first-ever win.

Marathon training is certainly paying off and she ran a commendable 2:58.42, which bodes well for London. Howard Ewan was first home for Ciren with yet another fine run and ultra runner Ed Morris came in just ahead of Jill.

Two more ultra runners, Rupert Chesmore and Liza Darroch, ran together adding to the club's strong performance, with Liza winning the FV60 category. As this group finished Martin Croucher set out to run the course again in preparation for the Comrades Marathon. His excellent consistency meant he completed the second 20miles in exactly the same time as the first.
