Wootton Bassett Dev 2 Malmesbury Vics 8

MALMESBURY VICS dominated Wootton Bassett's Development side from start to finish, despite going behind in the fourth minute.

Following a free kick from the left, there seemed little danger as Alan Griffin moved to clear. Unfortunately for Malmesbury, the referee deemed that it was controlled by a hand and Reece Bowler fired home from the spot.

The Vics were spurred into action and Sam Parker twice went close.

In the 13th minute Krystian Hext made a surging run through the middle before a pinpoint pass from Parker found the unmarked Sam Jenner, who finished well.

Two minutes later it was Parker again, this time providing a great pass to Allan Webb, who drove the ball into the top corner to give Malmesbury the lead.

Parker scored himself two minutes later, netting from a Jenner cross.

Parker's movement up front was pulling the home side's defence apart and once more he provided a cross for Webb to score, with a rare headed goal, after 25 minutes.

The home side hung on desperately until half-time, due to some glaring misses and some good work by their keeper.

The second half started in much the same vein as the first, with Hext being unlucky when his effort was cleared off the line in the 48th minute.

Webb increased the lead in the 49th minute to complete his hat-trick and grabbed his fourth in the 52nd – both were two smart finishes.

There was some respite for the home side in the 64th minute when Josh Cole finished well to pull a goal back after some hesitation in the visitors' defence, However, Malmesbury were soon back on the offensive and efforts by Griffin, Jenner and Parker all hit the woodwork.

It was left to Ed Wilkins to round off the scoring with a good finish in the 76th minute and a deflected effort two minutes later, as The Vics ran out comfortable winners.

Malmesbury MoM: Sam Parker.
