Oxford Mail XC League, Harwell

THE final Oxford Mail XC League event of the season produced a committed turn-out from Cirencester AC to establish some important league positions.

The ladies' A team, led home by Sarah Gunn (13th and third FV45), bunched well with Jane Thomas (18th) and Nicola Denning (21st). This put them fourth on the day and fifth in the series.

The Cirencester B team of Rhiannon Brown, Jill Hadland (fifth FV45 for the series) and Sue Brown were seventh on the day and eighth in the series. The final team comprised Barbara Thomas, Kate Fitton and club chairman Pam Wheeler.

The men’s team of seven finished a solid fifth on the day and sixth in the series. Dave Bell was fourth against stiff competition, achieving a fine second place for the year. Denis Galerin (fifth) and men’s captain Bill Leggate (seventh) supported well, with Bill earning a well-deserved series fourth.

Adrian Williams came in as last-minute support and got a 24th spot with the consistent Simon Campbell, Ionel Iancu and Bryan Reid making up the team.

The juniors battled hard with Tom Williams 25th in the U9s, Sam Svensson 16th in the U13s and Simon Crew a really good fourth in the U15s.

Bath Half Marathon, 13.1 miles, road

ALTHOUGH blustery, conditions were favourable for the 11,588 finishers and the five-strong Ciren contingent all finished in the top ten percent.

There was another good run for Peter Nunn and Andy Fellows finished strongly after his Bourton race last week. Howard Ewan finished slowly with stomach cramps and Neil Corbiere continued his successful comeback. David Moss used the race for his London Marathon training.

Results: 1, Paul Martelleti (Victoria Park Harriers) 1:05.28; 419, Peter Nunn 1:27.20; 626, Andy Fellows 1:30.41; 684, Howard Ewan 1:31.38; 837, Neil Corbiere 1:34.07; 1030, David Moss 1:36.13.
