THE quarter finals of the Alexcars-sponsored Charity Cup competitions dominated proceedings for Cirencester & District League teams at the weekend and surprisingly the holders of both competitions were eliminated.

In the Senior Charities Cup, CHQ United suffered a surprise 4-3 home defeat to Oaksey.

The prolific Phil Hall scored a hat-trick for Oaksey, with the other goal coming from Ady Lane.

CHQ had twice equalised through George Saunders and an own goal, with substitute Chris Saunders' late strike too late to affect the result. South Cerney comfortably saw off the challenge of Malmesbury Vics Reserves with a 4-1 win, in which Jamil Ates got the visitors' consolation.

Lechlade won a close game 3-2 at Stroud FC, where Jack Bonser scored both the home side's goals. Dan Welbourne's hat-trick and a further goal from Ashley Stevens, secured a 4-1 home win for Intel FC over The Beeches.

In the Junior Charities Cup, Ashton Keynes put out the holders CHQ United Reserves 2-1, while Down Ampney progressed with a convincing 4-0 win over Stratton United.

Bottom-of-the-table Tetbury Town Thirds will have a semi final tie to look forward to after their 2-0 win at Lechlade Reserves, thanks to goals from Martin Seal and Tom Selwood.

Siddington Sports Veterans beat Minchinhampton Town Reserves 6-2, but the visitors made it difficult for the home side and at one stage held a 2-1 lead.

Siddington's scorers were Mark Smith, Declan King, James Richards, Matt Richards, Jack Baverstock, and veteran Andy Lack, who rolled back the years with a 30-yard shot that fooled the visiting keeper.

There were two Division One games played in the M4 Karting Cirencester & District League. Poulton beat Minchinhampton Town 5-1. Poulton's Dan Read notched a hat-trick, with further goals from John Dawson and Luke Richards, while James Lindsay replied for the visitors.

Bibury Reserves made full use of home advantage having switched their game from Siddington to Aldsworth Road, and ended the visitors' recent good run with a 6-1 win.

There was only one game in Division Two and goals from Steve Leighfield (2), Steven Nesbitt and Jamie Pidgeon gave leaders Wroughton Town Reserves a comfortable victory at home to Oaksey Reserves.
