Weymouth 2 Cirencester Town 0

SECOND-PLACED Weymouth had been enduring a slight dip in form of late but the Centurions' display lacked their usual pace and penetration and they left Dorset with nothing.

Cirencester had the ball in the net in the seventh minute, chalked off because of a foul in the build-up, and had that been allowed the complexion of the game may have been different.

The Terras registered the first serious attempt on goal 15 minutes in when a fierce George Rigg shot required Glyn Garner to dive full length to tip it around the post.

Ciren responded with a period of pressure and Calvin Brooks, who had been yellow-carded for a foul on Jacob Davidge in the 10th minute, chested a Mark Pritchett chip off the line and managed to clear.

Weymouth, although apparently lacking in confidence, showed a little more urgency in the second half.

In the 57th minute, Chris Shephard produced a superb right-footed volley that Garner did well to push over the bar.

A few minutes later Ciren's Brad Hooper came close with a left-footed shot just wide of the post from 20 yards out.

The visitors had to resort to some desperate defending to keep the hosts out, including a Pritchett header off the line, but it looked as if they would hang on for a point until undone by a simple long ball from inside the Weymouth half in the 77th minute.

Chris McPhee made a positive run behind Gethin Jones and his first touch took the ball past the advancing Garner allowing him to place it into an empty net.

The Terras wasted a late chance to go 2-0 ahead when, following a foul by Ellis Dunton on Shephard, McPhee blazed the spot kick high over the bar.

In time-added-on Cirencester pushed forward in search of an equaliser and following a long throw into the Weymouth box they were caught on the break by Jordan Copp who raced clear to the left edge of the Centurions penalty area before rolling the ball into the path of Rigg for an easy finish.
