South Cerney 4 Malmesbury Vics Res 1

A LACKLUSTRE display by the young Vics side saw them capitulate to their far more experienced opponents.

South Cerney's midfield ran the game throughout, finding space and possession at will.

They took the lead in the eighth minute, when a free kick on the left by Ian McSherry was headed home unchallenged at the far post by Dan Leary.

The Vics nearly equalised in the 15th minute when a defender's miscued clearance was cleared off the line.

Cerney went further ahead seven minutes later when Aaron Perry made a quick break down the right before squaring the ball to Matty Lamond who finished well. Malmesbury's best efforts, by Jif Wilkins and Jordan Thomson, were from distance and failed to beat the keeper.

The Vics pushed forward at the start of the second half, but too often the final ball let them down.

They did manage to pull a goal back, in the 61st minute, when Jamil Ates broke through the centre and tucked the ball home.

This failed to rally the visitors, who fell further behind to goals from Perry and Kieran Jones, in the 68th and 85th minute.

With no further scoring the home side ran out comfortable winners in a match that was well controlled by young referee Jake Holmes.
