CIRENCESTER Golf Club head pro Ed Goodwin has seen off an international field to win the Golfbreaks.com Pro-Am at the Ryder Cup venue of Valderrama in Spain – and he did so by no fewer than eight shots.
Goodwin topped the leaderboard over three days on the championship courses of Valderrama and La Reserva with rounds of 71, 76 and 75.
He was chased home by a trio of Italian pros led by Igor Fantini.
"I have played in it for the last three years finishing second and fourth previously so it was nice to get over the line this time," said Goodwin.
"The weather was horrendous – colder than in England and wet and windy – which did not help the scoring and the very fast greens made it especially difficult for the amateurs.
"I've had trouble with the finish at Valderrama before finishing 8,6 on my first time so I was pleased to come home birdie, par on this occasion."
Goodwin's Cirencester team, which was completed by Sam Mitchell, Debbie Organ and Darren Robison, finished 10th out of 24 in the team event.
