Bramley ‘20’, nr Reading, 20 miles road

DAVE BELL of Cirencester AC put his marathon training to good effect and came in a very close third overall in the Bramley ‘20’, after almost chasing down the leader.

Simon Campbell had IT band (hip and thigh area) problems in the last three miles, dropping eight minutes as he limped home.

Better news for James Widdowson, helped by the experienced Martin Croucher, who set a substantial PB. Rupert Chesmore just missed the three-hour mark as Martin dropped back to escort him in.

Results: 1, John Sanderson (Guildford and Godalming AC) 1:51.25; 3, Dave Bell 1:52.34; 125, Simon Campbell 2:19.04; 340, James Widdowson 2:42.00; 516, Martin Croucher 3:00.47; 517, Rupert Chesmore 3:00.50. 743 finished.

Gloucestershire XC League, Tewkesbury

CAC’s burgeoning junior section had some good results at the final event of the series.

In the U15 boys, the improving Simon Crew finished fifth. In the U11s, there was a fine win for Daniel Winfield who finished the series in third.

Also on the day Samuel Alcott was 20th and young Tom Williams finished 52nd ; the boys' team finished seventh.

Wiltshire ‘10’, Melksham, 10 miles road

A FAST, flattish course and good racing conditions saw Tony Shelbourn finish 63rd in 1:10.15 to give him a V60/69 third place and earn him a MV65 CAC record. Barbara Thomas ran her 12 race of the year, finishing in 255th place in 1:32.54. The winner was George Frost (Team Bath AC) in 54.12 and 358 runners completed the race.

Parkruns, 5km trails

THESE free, accurately-timed Saturday morning runs take place all over the UK and prove popular with club runners and newcomers alike.

The first report, from Newby Bridge, Windermere, is unusual in that Ciren’s Howard Ewan got mixed up with a couple of fast women and was first male runner, finishing in third place in 18.58, behind two ladies. The winner was Lizzie Adams (Hallamshire Harriers) in 18.00 and 129 finished..

Denis Galerin, who holds the CAC Ciren Parkrun record, continued his comeback to finish second in Swindon. Barbara Thomas was again first FV55.

Results: 1, Ben Cole (Tonbridge AC) 16.01; 2, Denis Galerin 16.58; 30, David Moss 21.33; 47, Gordon Jones 22.22; 194, Barbara Thomas 28.12 and 369 finished.

Burnage, Stockport

GEOFF WELLS put in a few extra miles on his trip north and finished 25th overall in 25.13. Chris Newton (Oldham and Royton Harriers) won in 18.02 and 76 finished.
