Bourton Roadrunners Juniors

Gloucestershire AAA Cross Country Championships

NIAMH POWELL of Bourton Roadrunners Juniors completely dominated the U15s age category at the Gloucestershire AAA Cross Country Championships with a powerful and determined run.

The U15s and U17s race together and Niamh would have finished second in the older group behind only an England international.

There were a number of other high class medal-winning performances from club juniors at the Five Acres College in Coleford where rain had made conditions very demanding.

Rosanna Mutsaars seemed to glide over the mud to finish in an excellent fourth place.

She was pushed hard by Koumi Ikeda (fifth) who has a completely different style, powering through the mud.

The Bourton trio won the team gold prize.

They were well backed up by the improving Charlotte Foster (14th) and Gaby Jones, returning after illness, in a fine 15th.

The U13 girls missed out on top places by just a few seconds.

Lucy Griffin slowly but surely closed the gap on the leader and in the finishing straight she was within touching distance but she had to settle for a very good silver medal.

Bethan Powell lost out on third spot by the width of a vest, while Josephine Mutsaars' flowing style took her into seventh.

The Bourton trio claimed the team silver.

Further back came Emily Field (13th) and Isabel Kiey-Thomas (16th).

The U11 girls were out in force with Helena West benefiting from some tough winter training to take the bronze county medal.

She was pushed very hard by Isobel Barnett (fourth) who is returning to her old form.

Celia Darwent showed potential in 10th and these three girls claimed the team silver medal.

Kan Ikeda ran an excellent third to win the individual bronze in the U11 boys and he led home the gold medal-winning Bourton team which was completed by a gusty Louis Mutsaars (fifth) and a determined Findlay Morriss (sixth).

They were very well backed up by Beau Griffin (eighth), Lysander Tarrant (ninth) and James Mace (12th) who collectively won the team bronze prize.
