JODY LAWRENCE, a stalwart of Beeches FC since the age of 11, scored his 100th goal for the club on Saturday.

Sadly, it was not enough to stop his side from going down 6-2 to Intel FC in Division One of the M4 Karting Cirencester & District League.

Both of Jody's strikes were long-range efforts and worthy goal-of-the-season candidates.

He was making his 235th appearance for the Beeches club – scoring 38 goals for the youth teams in 53 matches and 62 goals for the senior sides in 182 matches Club secretary Mick Ricketts said: "It is really nice to have a loyal lad around like Jody who still wants to play for The Beeches FC.

"The club has nearly folded on a couple of occasions this season and we are not out of the woods yet."

One-club man Lawrence is also saddened by the current position at Beeches.

"I'm obviously happy to have made it to 100," he said.

"I have been at the club since I was 11 and I'm just as disappointed as anyone that the club is struggling and on the verge of folding as we have had some great teams down the years."

All-rounder Jody is a keen cricketer and when the football season is over he turns out for Poulton CC.
