Anglesey Coastal Trail Ultra, 32.6m trails

ROB FORBES made the trek to North Wales to compete in the gruelling Anglesey Coastal path run just one week after winning the Naunton Nearly 19.

Rob (4:33.04) came a very close second in the Anglesey event finishing less than a minute behind the winner, sponsored athlete Charlie Sharpe (4:32.12), who smashed the old course record by 18 minutes. Rob, who finished with very sore ankles from the rocks, was 'gutted' not to take the title but we’re all sure that there will be more victories for him in 2015.

Unsurprisingly just 56 athletes finished this challenging race.

Slaughterford ‘9’, nine miles multi-terrain

THIS really hilly and muddy event is becoming increasingly popular with the CAC aficionados of tough events.

The weather was kinder this year and although there was mud it was not as deep as in previous years and led to a number of strong performances.

The first three Ciren men home – Dan Wood, Martin Neill and Ed Morrisall – all set PBs and they were followed in by race-regulars Andy Hindson and a recovering-from-injury Nicola Denning, who was second LV35.

Jill Hadland and Amy Bentley also ran strongly for their PBs.

The short river crossing was dreadfully cold so the Mars bar and T-shirt at the finish were most welcome.

This intrepid group are all looking forward the Oxford Mail League XC in Cirencester Park this weekend.

Results: 1, Allister Sheffield (Team Bath AC) 56.51; 32, Dan Wood 1:07.49; 41, Martin Neill 1:09.27; 68, Ed Morris 1:12.43; 71, Andy Hindson 1:13.05; 107, Nicola Denning 1:17.04; 115, Jill Hadland 1:17.54; 128, Amy Bentley 1:19.08. 337 finished.

Linda Franks Run, Cheltenham, 5m road

THE first of the 2015 Gloucester Road Race Series events was run on a relatively benign morning and the race was fully subscribed at 250 runners.

Ben Price (26.23) of Cheltenham Harriers led home two team-mates to complete a one-two-three for their club.

Tony Shelbourn (33.35) was 48th, running a faster time than last year to give him second MV65. The ubiquitous Barbara Thomas (42.17) was 171st and ran well in her sixth race of 2015.

Swindon Parkrun, 5km trails

BARBARA THOMAS finished 171st out of a record 515 runners and her 26.47 earned her a first FV55. Lawrence Winter (unattached) won in 18.02.
