FC Chippenham Youth 3 Malmesbury Vics 3

MALMESBURY dominated for the majority of the game but woeful finishing cost them two points.

The Vics should have taken the lead in the 13th minute after some great interplay between Alan Griffin and Ed Wilkins opened up the home defence, but Sam Jenner delayed his shot allowing the keeper to smother the ball.

The visitors, looking rusty after the long Xmas break, rarely threatened the home goal.

It was a quick break by Chippenham that gave them the lead in the 32nd minute. With the Vics defence appealing for offside, Robbie Tripp was allowed through to fire past debutant keeper Jack Reid.

Three minutes later Chippenham went two up as former Malmesbury player Matty Cootes pounced on a defensive mix-up to score.

Still Malmesbury continued to miss chances as Webb and Wilkins fired narrowly wide. Wilkins did manage to reduce the deficit in the 38th minute, when he was first to the ball after a goalkeeping error to slot home.

Malmesbury, with the wind at their backs, opened the second half brightly. Jenner created a chance which Jake Fortune put just wide.

Then Jenner and Hext combined well down the right to set up veteran Alan Griffin who finished superbly in the 65th minute.

Chippenham's defence, well marshalled by their captain, was under constant pressure. On 70 minutes, the Vics took the lead when Griffin ran through only to be hauled down by the keeper, who was cautioned.

From the resulting free kick on the edge of the box, skipper Ant Brown stepped up to bend the ball around the wall and into the net.

Chippenham then pressed hard for an equaliser and parity was restored in the final seconds when Fusco lost the ball allowing Dan Sibley to score.

MoM: Jake Fortune.
