North Wilts U17/18 League
Malmesbury Vics 1 Fairford Town 0
THE young Malmesbury Vics side go into the Xmas break topping division one of the North Wilts U17/18 League after edging a close game against Fairford Town.
Neither side could break the deadlock in an even first half.
Fairford should have taken the lead directly after the re-start, but their striker blazed over an unguarded net from 10 yards.
Malmesbury picked up the pace and took the lead in the 71st minute, when Jordan Thompson fired home after a flowing move. Fairford, whose performance belied their lowly league position, almost squared the game, when only a superlative save by home keeper Josh Langley kept them out.
A good standard of football was played by both sides and on this performance Fairford should soon be climbing the league.
