Purton 2 Letcombe 1
PURTON extended their unbeaten league run to seven matches with a 2-1 victory at the Red House on Saturday against basement side Letcombe, writes Alan Eastwood.
The scoreline should have been more emphatic for the hosts but they were let down by some poor finishing.
On a bitterly cold afternoon Purton went ahead after 35 minutes when Steve Davies headed home a Joe Dorey corner at the back post.
They added a second in the 52nd minute when Ben Carter finished off a Paul Day cross.
In what is becoming a habit, however, Purton conceded a soft goal to let the visitors back in the game with 25 minutes remaining when a long ball over the defence was converted by Andy Goodchild.
Purton, though down to 10 men in the 75th minute when striker Carter was red-carded, spurned the chance to make the result comfortable when an 85th minute penalty kick by Lee Toomey was saved.
Purton were without suspended pair James Griffin and Jamie Richards but both will be available for the home game against New College, Swindon (2pm kick-off ) on Saturday, December 27.
