ALTHOUGH fellow title contenders CHQ Utd and Poulton were not in action on Saturday, they would have been pleased with the result at leaders South Cerney where visiting Malmesbury Victoria Reserves sprung a surprise with a 3-1 victory to inflict only Cerney`s second defeat of the campaign.
The result pushed Malmesbury up to fourth spot in the M4 Karting Cirencester & District League Div One.
Intel remain second and they beat a luckless Minchinhampton Town 7-0, with John Horgan getting a hat-trick and further goals coming from Chris Peaple, Tom Duff, Rob Clark and an own goal.
Oaksey and Highworth Town Development shared the points in a thrilling 3-3 draw, with Phil Hall scoring twice and Jake Peglar getting the Oaksey goals. Dom Gordon, Mitch Webb and Kyle Webb scored for Minchinhampton. Siddington Sports and Lechlade also could not be separated, with Jamie Axford netting for the home side in a 1-1 draw.
In Division Two, both Wroughton Town Reserves and Siddington Sports Veterans closed the gap on leaders Down Ampney with convincing victories. Down Ampney were without a game.
Wroughton won 7-1 at Tetbury Town III, with Steve Leighfield scoring twice, and there were further goals from Adam Leighfield, Dan Morton, Jamie Pidgeon, Jack Stanley and Jamie Turpie. Siddington won 13-1 at Lechlade Reserves with Dennis King (5), Declan King (3), James Richardson (3) and Jack Baverstock (2), racking up the goals.
Ashton Keynes put in an excellent team performance to beat South Cerney Reserves 6-0, and CHQ United Reserves won a see-saw game at Stratton United 4-5.
