Southern Counties North
Aylesbury 36 Stow 0
THE one-sided 36-0 scoreline truly reflected the game as Stow had a complete off day and were beaten by a far better team.
Aylesbury had not shown their potential in previous games but unfortunately for second-placed Stow they chose this game to get it right. When Stow did have possession they threw stray passes.
Aylesbury scored early, a missed clearance was run back and, benefiting from an overlap, the opening converted try was scored.
Some weak tackling then let in Aylesbury for their second try.
It got worse as the under-pressure Stow made a poor clearance and more missed tackles resulted in Aylesbury’s third try.
The last play of the half saw the bonus-point try result from a five-metre scrum; to rub salt in, the conversion went over.
The second half did see Stow at least compete but even though Aylesbury went down to 14 men they still scored again from a pushover try.
Stow’s heads were down and a simple crash ball through the centre should have been halted but the tackles were again missed for a converted try under the posts.
Stow at last woke up and spent the final quarter of the game on the attack, but far too many dropped balls and stray passes limited Stow’s chances to score.
Some encouraging drives up front gained ground but the home side easily defended any threat which left Stow without a score.
