Uhlsport Supplementary Cup 2nd Round
Easington Sports 2 Purton 0
PURTON'S hopes of remaining in their last cup competition evaporated at Addison Road against Easington Sports from the Div One (East) league, writes Alan Eastwood.
A soft goal a minute before half-time and a second in the 71st minute saw the Banbury side through.
They had the better of the game throughout but a late rally by Purton might have given them a win, as Ritchie Saunders had a headed goal chalked off for offside and also put a good chance just wide, while new signing Day was denied by a brilliant save from the home keeper.
Purton goalie Cowley was Purton's man of the match, making three great saves in the opening 20 minutes and another after 65 minutes in a Purton display that was as good as could be expected considering the players they were forced to field.
With manager Justin Miller away, assistant Nick McCrae was helped out by Steve Davies with both named on the bench having taken knocks the previous week.
The Hall brothers, May, Griffin, Dodson and Carter were all unavailable, but the team did include new signings Day and Allen.
