CIRENCESTER head pro Ed Goodwin is making a habit of finishing third in golf tournaments.

Fresh from his third place in the PGA Capt/Pro National Challenge Final in Turkey, he filled the same placing in the Gloucester and Somerset PGA Medal at Forest Hills GC.

And six birdies were not enough to give Goodwin victory in the final individual G&S Medal of 2014 at the Worlebury Golf Club in Weston-super-Mare on Wednesday.

At Forest Hills, Goodwin’s one over par 73 was two shots adrift of winner, his great rival Giuseppe Licata.

Licata therefore stretched his lead over Goodwin in the Total Triumph Order of Merit.

At Worlebury, Licata and Goodwin couldn’t be separated with their par 72s but they were both two shots behind James Keitch, the former Taunton vale assistant who recorded his first victory as a professional.

The last 10 days have been a bit of a rollercoaster for 21-year-old Keitch, who worked under his father Martin and alongside older brother Dan, at Taunton Vale, which closed its doors for the final time last month after being sold, meaning the trio are all looking for new roles within the game.
