FORTY-NINE talented young riders have been selected for support from the British Equestrian Federation (BEF).

The nationwide list of riders named on the 2014-2016 UK Sport National Lottery funding World Class development programme for eventing, dressage and showjumping include four from Wiltshire.

The county is well represented in eventing with World Equestrian Games rider Harry Meade as well as David Doel and Tom McEwen.

Jessica Mendoza also keeps her place on the showjumping programme.

But Wiltshire has no rider nominated for the dressage programme. “This year’s applicants raised the bar yet again and we saw some exceptional talent coming forward during our selection trials,” said Gordon Burton, the BEF’s head of performance. “It is great to see such a depth and breadth of ability and bodes well for the future of equestrian sport in the UK.”
