HENRY PURDY is the latest player to commit his future to Gloucester.

Purdy, who was part of the England U20s squad that won the Junior World Championship earlier this year, joined the Cherry and Whites during the summer from Leicester Tigers.

He has since gone on to become a regular member of the first-team matchday squad, featuring either at centre or on the left wing.

Director of rugby David Humphreys has moved quickly to extend the Oxford-born player's stay with the club.

Speaking to the club website this week, Purdy said: "To come off the back of an amazing summer with England U20s in New Zealand, to hit the ground running and be playing in the Gloucester first team has been amazing for me. I really feel like I am learning with every minute on the pitch.

"I am really happy with my progress, but I also know that I have to keep putting in the hard work to continue being part of the aspirations that we have as a squad."

Humphreys said: "Henry had a great summer in international colours, and has put down a real marker in both training and in the outings he has made for the club.

"For a 20-year old to come into some highly intense and tough games, and perform the way that he has, is testament to his attitude and application.

"It is a great statement for us as a club to have secured the services of our Junior World champions in Ross (Moriarty), Billy (Burns) and now Henry, and shows that we have a hugely bright future in the squad. These players are repaying the faith we are showing in them by stepping up to the mark when called upon."
