HARDLY a week goes by it seems without Luckington eventer Harry Meade winning another award.

Fresh from winning the Event Horse Owners’ Association’s coveted Darby’s Rider Award, the 2014 World Equestrian Games team silver medallist, picked up two more gongs over the weekend.

At the Event Riders Association’s annual bash, Meade collected both the Riders’ Choice Award and the Against All Odds Award.

“I was very touched to have been given the Shearwater Against All Odds award,” said Meade. “It was a great honour, particularly as the other candidates were so impressive.

“It was also a complete surprise, and a very moving one, to receive the Riders’ Choice award.

“This is voted for by riders and described by the ERA as being for ‘an exceptional ambassador for the sport of eventing in terms of their performance, their input back to the sport and their personality’, so it was a huge honour to win it.

“I am very grateful to everyone who voted. The support over the past year from all the other riders and the eventing public has been overwhelming. Every step of the way people have shared in our highs and lows, and our tears and joy. Thank you all so much.”

Meade came back to competitive riding this year after breaking both his elbows in a competition fall in 2013. Before claiming his WEG team silver, he had also finished third at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials on the ill-fated Wild Lone.
