AVONVALE YOUTH ROUND-UP

Avonvale Utd U15s 0 Cam Everside U15s 2

THE top-of-the-table clash between Vale and Cam Everside lived up to expectations and the home side can consider themselves unlucky to come away from the game with no points.

Although Cam took the lead after four minutes Vale had already threatened the visitors' net as Adam Gale drove wide following an excellent pass by James Skeldon.

The goal was a scrappy one, with Cam allowed three stabs at the ball before it finally crossed the line.

Vale responded well and the game flowed from end to end.

Cam were very physical and the neat-passing Vale players stood up to several tough tackles.

Early in the second half Vale had a golden opportunity to level the scores.

Neat work between Skeldon, Gale and Laurence Cooper put Theo Martin through but his chip over the advancing keeper was cleared off the line.

Finally, in the dying moments, Cam doubled their lead when Ben Theaker handled in the area and the resultant spot kick beat the excellent Adam Foster in goal.

Though disappointed at the final whistle, Vale gave a performance that was full of pride and passion.

GVR Chalford U16s 3 Avonvale Utd U16s 1

AVONVALE U16s' 100 per cent start to the season was ended on Sunday after a below-par performance against Golden Valley Rangers.

During a poor first half GVR eased into a two-goal lead as Avonvale neither showed their usual appetite or footballing skills to compete against a fast, powerful team.

However, the second half was a different story as the team forced themselves back into the game and pulled a goal back through Johnson. The next 30 minutes was end-to-end with chances for Hoare, Dandridge and Johnson almost completing the comeback while the excellent Goodwin in goal repelled the GVR counter attacks.

In the last minute GVR broke away again and this time found the net to complete the victory.

Avonvale Utd U12s 2 Tetbury Town U12s 1

AVONVALE UTD defeated local rivals Tetbury Town for the second time within a week.

The home side began the game well, dominating possession and regularly threatening down the wings through Danny Hedge and Orlando Harding, with the latter opening the scoring after 15 minutes.

Lewis Rodgers and Ben Lemos came close to doubling the lead before Tetbury created good chances of their own towards the end of the half, which saw shots hit the post and get blocked on the line.

The second half continued in similar fashion with both teams creating chances and the keepers in fine form before Rodgers finally got the second, again finishing well from a one-on-one.

Benjamin Cook was unfortunate not to kill the game off, curling a shot narrowly wide but Tetbury continued to fight, first hitting the crossbar with an excellent free kick and then scoring a late consolation which their performance merited.

MoM: Orlando Harding.
