IT LOOKS as if things are slowly heading in the right direction for the Swindon Wildcats as they recorded a massive 5-1 victory on the road in Sheffield on Saturday evening.

When everything comes together for head coach Ryan Aldridge, he has a very dangerous side at his disposal.

In the right mood they are capable of dishing out a heavy beating to any team in the English Premier League.

The upturn in form for net minder Stevie Lyle has certainly been a massive boost to the team.

When a goalie is playing well, the confidence flows through the team and that has been shown in the last few weeks as the Welshman has made some stellar saves which have created a platform for some positive results.

The big names in the line-up are starting to play the type of hockey they are known for. Aaron Nell seems to have put the slow start behind him and Tomasz Malasinski is getting better game by game.

Sheffield is a tough place to play, but Swindon outplayed the Steeldogs in most aspects of the game to grab a deserved win.

The opening goal came very late in the first period, at the 19:02 mark, as Nell saw his shot deflect past Czech goalie Dalibor Sedlar.

The hosts started the second frame well and were rewarded midway through the period as Lyle was finally beaten.

The physical contest was nicely poised at 1-1 going into the final 20 minutes of action.

After some good puck movement from the Cats, the in-form Adam Harding scored early in the third session to give the visitors their second lead of the night.

The next goal was going to be a crucial one, and it was Nell who doubled his tally for the night, this time scoring on a rebound.

That goal seemed to end the game as a contest, but Swindon weren’t done as Malasinski bagged himself a late brace.

It could prove the same old story for Swindon this season, starting slow but turning it on around the festive period.

They are too good a team to be sitting seventh in the league table, but a good run of form will see them move upwards.

This weekend the Cats welcome Sheffield to the Swindon Ice Arena for a rematch before making the long trip to Gillingham to face the Invicta Dynamos in the cup competition on Sunday.
