Cirencester 33 Gordon League 9

CIRENCESTER got over the disappointment of last week’s draw with a dominant display over Gordon League.

Despite suffering an early setback when James Fisher was forced off with an injury in only the second minute, Ciren were never troubled by a committed, but limited visiting side.

Town got on the board after 10 minutes when, following a good carry by Ed Alderman, debutant scrum half Jack Lister released quick ball to the rampaging Sam Hill who crashed over the line.

Gordon League then pressed, but when Ciren turned the ball over, No.8 Ben Rayola scorched away with the ball.

Instead of taking the easy pass, he showed typical Fijian flair with a chip over the last man for Alderman to pounce on the loose ball and bag the second try.

Five minutes of loose play followed in which Town allowed the visiting side to kick a couple of penalties but 10-6 was as close as got as the home side responded with a penalty for full back Andy Waite, before Hill spun out of a collapsed maul and drove over the line for his second try to make the half-time score 18-6.

Ciren started the second half with gusto, searching for the fourth try bonus point. After the visiting side were driven back to their own line, a penalty line-out was slapped down untidily and hooker Simon Waite was the first to react as he scooped the ball up and dived over the line.

From the kick off, Town switched off momentarily and a penalty was knocked over by the visiting fly half.

The home side reacted in positive fashion and after a strong counter attack, Lister released quick ball to fly half Adam Seager who spotted a huge overlap and flung the ball out to the left where Rayola fed Hill for his hat-trick try.

With final play of the game, Seager took a quick tap penalty and made a half-break before handing the ball on to James Renowden for a well-deserved try.

This was a positive performance from Cirencester, winning well and with the important bonus point secured.

Their hugely impressive defence meant that the visiting Gordon League side never looked like scoring a try.
