STRATTON YOUTH ROUND-UP

Croft U17s 1 Stratton Youth U17s 0

DESPITE a huge effort Stratton U17s lost to the only goal of the game at Croft.

On a small pitch which, in parts, looked like a ploughed field, the Stratton lads struggled for the first 45 minutes.

Croft's passing football left Stratton dizzy at times and the home side took the lead on 30 minutes after an attack that cut easily through the visitors' defence.

Stratton dug deep and fashioned a few chances before the break, but nothing quite went their way.

After the interval Stratton started to play with some width but just couldn't find a way through. As legs got tired, the tackles got worse and two Stratton lads found themselves booked.

For the last 20 minutes it was end-to-end stuff and Stratton fashioned another six or seven chances but just couldn't find a goal. When they did find the net it was ruled offside.

The Stratton lads bossed the final 10 minutes and were applauded by the coach for their huge efforts.

STRATTON were always in control of this game following an early goal from Matt Hopkins.

Hopkins then supplied a perfect cross for Michael Cook to head home.

The home side pulled a goal back through Sam Harrison but Cook nipped the revival in the bud with another goal before half-time.

Hopkins added a fourth immediately following the break, chipping the keeper after breaking free from the left.

Cook completed his hat-trick with a strong run and finish but Blunsdon hit back straight away with a goal from Charlie Lord.

However, the visitors saw out the game comfortably to win 5-2.

STRATTON U12S were away to Wickwar in a county cup game in which they played some good stuff but were unlucky on the day and found the home side in good form.
