MALMESBURY’S embryo racing driver Louis Harvey raced in the Llandow Kart Club Championship at the weekend just 24 hours after being given the all-clear to race by doctors at John Radcliffe Hospital.
Ten-year-old Harvey was airlifted to the Oxford hospital last month after a horror crash in the final round of the Rissington Kart Club Championship.
His injuries included small bleeds in his right lung and adrenal gland.
Given a clean bill of health, Louis felt confident behind the wheel despite the wet and slippery conditions in Saturday practice.
Sunday's heats saw his determination to win grow with each heat and he lined up in the Cadet final from eighth on the grid.
After an excellent start Louis led all the Hondas in his class.
A great battle developed between Louis and George Alp-Williams as they swapped places repeatedly until lap seven when the Malmesbury lad made a small mistake dropping him back a few kart lengths which was unrecoverable with just three laps remaining.
Louis decided to settle for second place knowing he had a comfortable gap over the third-placed Honda of Austin Maddocks.
Having missed a race in October due to his Rissington racing accident, Louis was unable to make a challenge for fourth in the Llandow Championship.
But his weekend’s results took him to fifth overall overall among the Hondas in the year-long series standings.
Louis would like to thank his sponsors Ideal Displays of Swindon and Forces Reunited as well as his suppliers Shark Motorsport, RPM Race Engines and PowerMaxed Racing for their support in 2014.
