BASSETT Colts U17s battled their way to a 32-7 win over North Dorset to secure their place in the Dorset and Wilts Cup Final.

After coming close early on, Elye Darragh opened the try scoring on 22 minutes with Dan Sweeney adding the conversion.

Sweeney added a penalty after 27 minutes to lead 10-0 at half-time .

Bassett stepped up a gear in the second half with Scott Douglas, Sam Haskell, Matt Hayes and Tom Davies all going over. Sweeney kicked another conversion while North Dorset replied with a second-half try .

Bassett now await the winners of the Bournemouth v Bradford-on-Avon semi final having reached their second consecutive county final.

AHEAD of this Sunday's cup derby at home to Swindon (11am kick off), Bassett U16s recorded a morale-boosting victory against the visitors from Cheltenham who had been unbeaten since the first day of the season.

Without hitting top form the squad eased to a well-earned win thanks to four tries, including one from the outstanding George Blake, a brace from Sean Norris and a spectacular team try from deep in their own half which saw Brody Anderson cross the line.

Ryan Mountford added two conversions and Blake added a penalty.

IN WHAT was described by coach Paul Shimmell as a good performance, Bassett secured a big win against their gallant hosts who forced Bassett to defend on a number of occasions .

Highlights included tries for George Stephens, Jack Jones and Kieron Bennett-Thomas, with Will Shishton making all but two of his attempted conversions.

Elsewhere, Bassett U15s ran out 65-5 winnres at Frome.

BASSETT'S thriving mini section enjoyed a wonderful evening at Gloucester RFC where they were selected to be Guard of Honour for the prestigious international between USA & Tonga.
