Chippenham II 10 Fairford 12

FAIRFORD claimed a first victory over Chippenham seconds in a closely-contested affair.

Chippenham opened the game with much of the possession and territory; but created little as Fairford were ferocious yet composed in defence.

A lapse around the ruck, however, allowed one of the Chippenham players to snipe through and a couple of phases later they scored out wide.

Fairford started the better of the two sides but struggled to create any real scoring opportunities.

A try came minutes later as pressure on the opposition fly half forced a wild pass; Will Bowers was on hand to pick up and set up winger Sam Baker to canter home.

The score from nothing seemed to inspire the Fairford players as they had a second try almost immediately from the restart.

Fly half Ed Keogh put skipper Bobby Tilling through a gap before passing to Ben Crocker who sprinted past the full back before scoring under the posts. Tilling converted.

Chippenham got their other try in the second half after the ball pin-balled on half-way, leading to a break and several sets of hands later the winger touched down.

Fairford showed good resillience but were fortuitous as Chippenham spurned several shots at goal and poor decision making made their day's work much harder than it could have been.
