CIRENCESTER RFC unveiled a new scoreboard on the 1st XV pitch at the Whiteway on Saturday in memory of Ashley Scrivens who lost his battle with skin cancer in the summer.

Ashely’s parents Nigel and Sharon were present along with members of his family and friends to see the board introduced in the autumn sunshine prior to the club’s Gloucester Premier league match against Whitehall.

They were joined for the ‘official’ unveiling by club president Nick Theakston and club chairman Tim Thompson.

Ashley played for Cirencester in the mini & youth sections before graduating through the colts and into the 1st XV. He is sorely missed at the club but the board is the start of a legacy for Ashley which the club hopes to continue.

The board features a remotely-controlled LED display which shows both the match score and the elapsed time.

The new board was kindly donated by existing club sponsor T & R Theakston, the brewers.

The club would also like to thank Adam and Mark from Seager Welding Services for constructing the substantial metal frame and Dave Cater from Goldhill Quarry for the groundwork and erecting the board itself.
