Glos Reserve League Div 3/4
Berry Hill III 12 Fairford II 24
A YOUNG and inexperienced Fairford second team gained their first ever victory away from home.
From the outset the team stuck to their game plan of defending hard against Berry Hill thirds and running from deep.
Two early tries came from breakaways involving captain Danny Briggs and Greg Jane with centre Guy Livermore scoring both.
Some resolute defending by Pete Mason and Kev McCann kept the opposition at bay until the last minute of the half when a rolling maul resulted in a try for the hosts.
The second half was much the same with Livermore combining with Jake Page-Maskell to score his hat-trick while Briggs fed Jane for his first try.
A consolation try for Berry Hill late on was not enough to deny Fairford an historic victory.
There were some stand-out performances from a team which has an average age of just 21, none more so than Ollie Jenkins, Piers Powis and Dan Hague around the ruck and Stevie Simpkins, Jane and MoM Livermore running from deep with pace and guile.
