Uhlsport Hellenic Div One West North Leigh United 1 Purton 2 PURTON ended a run of four league defeats when producing a great all-round team performance on Saturday at North Leigh, writes Alan Eastwood.

It was a double celebration for manager Justin Miller on his birthday as his side ran out worthy winners despite still being without skipper Marcus Hall and Joe Dorey.

In the first half, although Purton keeper Cowley had to make a couple of good saves it was the visitors who might have been well ahead at the break after Ben Carter hit the woodwork and Jerome Dodson and Ritchie Saunders went close to scoring.

Early in the second half North Leigh had a goal disallowed for pushing on 47 minutes and two minutes later Steve Davies headed goalwards for Carter to head home, only for that to be disallowed too.

Carter was not to be denied, however, as a Tom Swindall pass set him up to score with a cracking shot into the roof of the net.

Miller and Nick McCrae came on as subs in last 15 minutes and shortly after that a great double save by keeper Cowley was followed by the ball being fired upfield and a great Miller through ball sent Dodson through and he finished in style.

North Leigh's Elliot Bryant netted a consolation goal from the spot after 87 minutes.
