Malmesbury Vics 3 Southbrook 5

A GOOD half-time 'talking to' saw Malmesbury lay siege to the Southbrook goal after the break but the three points still left with the visitors.

Malmesbury, perhaps with their thoughts on the forthcoming FA Vase game, started slowly allowing a sprightly Southbrook side to attack at will.

It was no surprise when the visitors took the lead in the fifth minute, Jamie Shepherd connecting well from 25 yards after a half-cleared corner.

Six minutes later they doubled their lead via an unmarked Matty Bennett.

The Vics did manage to pull a goal back in the 26th minute when Ant Brown scored from the spot after Will Picter was brought down.

It was Picter himself who brought the game level with a fine volley in the 33rd minute.

Parity was short-lived, however, as Bennett, once again unmarked, grabbed the 3-2 lead.

The Vics raised their game considerably after the interval and they got a deserved equaliser with five minutes remaining when Matty Fusco drilled home from the edge of the box.

Lessons had not been learned, though, and poor marking once again allowed former Vics player Clint Walker to head home from a corner.

The home side were once again chasing the game which allowed Bennett to crown a great individual display with his third, and Southbrook's fifth, goal as he rounded the keeper in the dying seconds.
