THE British Supersport 600 Championship is ending too soon for Josh Day.

The series concluded at Brands Hatch over the weekend and the Cirencester racer won both the Saturday and Sunday races in the Evo class, recording the fastest lap time in both events for good measure.

It was only his second outing in the series for his new team, Ruby Racing, launched by the Bristol scaffolding firm run by Jamie and Joanne Davis.

On his team debut in the previous round, Josh made the podium in both races but had to settle for highly encouraging third places.

Even Day, 26, can’t quite believe the excellent results that this embryo team is producing. “The team has been awesome,” said Josh, winner of the British Superstock 600 championship in 2010. “I was not expecting it.

“When we entered the final two rounds of the championship it was just with a view to getting some track time on the new bike in preparation for next year.

“The bike still needs plenty of development but it is pretty competitive already.”

Unfortunately, the bike will virtually go into mothballs until winter testing, probably in Spain, in the New Year, with the Motorpoint British Supersport 600 Championship starting again in March.

“Unlike a lot of riders on the circuit, I work full time (with Mitsubishi in Cirencester as a paint sprayer) and I have used up all my holidays,” said Day.

“In fact, I am going to have to do some overtime just to catch up.”

Motorcycling is a very expensive sport and Josh will be hosting a fundraising evening for his team at Cirencester Town FC on Saturday, November 1, from 7pm. Entry is £10 per person. Kids go free.

“It’s usually a good evening with a race night and a DJ and all for just £10,” he said.
