British Duathlon Age-Group Championships

WENDY NICHOLLS (2:10.01) not only won her age-group race at the British Duathlon Championships but the entire ladies race.

She led virtually from the start to finish and came home 43rd overall.

Adrian Williams was the second Ciren athlete competing in the 10km run, 40km bike ride and 5km run.

Williams (1:58.19), despite protecting an Achilles injury; had a particularly strong bike leg which gained him third place in the 35-59 age group place and 11th overall.

Julian Lings (1:51.57) of Team Accelerate won from Lee Piercy of Performance Cycles in Poulton. 127 finished.

Rab Mountain Marathon, Longsleddale, Lake District

A 13-HOUR, two-day orienteering and running event to find the maximum number of checkpoints scattered over mountainous terrain.

Andy Hindson ran with regular orienteering partner Andrew Eyles, encountering all weathers, to pull up from 44th on day one to 38th overall, and winning a third male vet team prize.

Stewart Bellamy was the overall winner and 107 teams completed.

Parkruns, 5km park trails

A LARGE Ciren turn-out in Swindon, with three age-group wins among the 334 finishers – Ionel Iancu (VM40-44), Gordon Jones (VM60-64) and Barbara Thomas (VW55-59). Mark Edwards was three seconds off his PB while Jenny Brewin made a welcome return to racing.

RESULTS – 1, Ben Cole (Tonbridge AC) 16.12; 15, Ionel Iancu 20.37; 34, Gordon Jones 21.49; 37, Mark Edwards 21.57; 56, James Edwards 22.56; 110, Barbara Thomas 25.09; 159, Richard Crew 27.36; 229, David Moss 31.20; 289, Jenny Brewin 36.35. 334 finished.

Adam Powell (19.37), a first-timer at the Cheltenham Parkrun, finished a commendable 12th overall and second VM35-39. James Bellward (16.40) of RAF AC won.

Swindon Half Marathon, 13.1 miles roads

NEVER an easy race but Keith Firkin (1:36.11) achieved an age-group fourth, finishing 100th out of 950 runners.

Oxford Half-Marathon

DICK WALDRON (MV70) ran the Oxford Half-Marathon in 2:03.03, finishing midway through the field and well up in his MV65 age-group. David Bruce (1:11.26) won and 4,461 finished.

Gloucester XC, Guiting Power

THE YOUNG and improving CAC juniors turned in some encouraging results.

Eleven-year-old Luke Buck finished 15th in the U13s and Kieran Courtney was 42nd. In the U11s Daniel Winfield ran to a fine third place while Sam Allott and Ben Woodstock finished midfield.

In the U13 girls Lauren Izon finished a strong fourth out of 40 competitors and in the U11s sister Sophie was 19th and Phoebe Matthews 41st out of 66.
