Lydney Town 5

Purton 2

A LACKLUSTRE performance for 75 per cent of the game cost Purton dearly as they went down 5-2 at Lydney, writes Alan Eastwood.

Manager Justin Miller and his staff were disappointed at the team's all-round display which saw Lydney boss the game and go three goals to the good in little more than half an hour.

Purton's only efforts came when a header and a shot from Kenny Hawkins were saved by the home keeper.

Lydney took a 4-0 lead after 63 minutes but the introduction of Purton subs Dave Gee and Ritchie Saunders improved things and on 78 minutes Saunders was fouled in the box leaving Dave Slattery to convert the spot kick.

On 83 minutes, fine work from Dave Gee helped set up a Saunders goal from close range.

Gee then saw a dangerous cross headed out for a corner and minutes later drove an effort just wide.

Purton's rally was ended by Lydney's fifth goal two minutes from time when Purton keeper Johnny Cowley, back in the team after several weeks out, mishandled in his area.
