DAVE BELL (1:12.03) has had a super season and will have been disappointed to be beaten into third place at the Cheltenham Half, with the CAC half-marathon record still eluding him.

Cheltenham Half, 13.2 miles, roads

There were also good runs for Richard Hobbs (1:29.54), Neil Corbiere(1:31.57) and Leo Crawford (1:35.13). Mike Credicott (1:51.37) put in a solid performance to finish in 399th place. Dave Roper (Cheltenham Harriers) won in 1:09.26 and 2,944 runners finished.

Chippenham Half, 13.2 miles, roads

ED MORRIS (1:33.48), having warmed up at the Swindon Parkrun, finished in 141st place out of a field of 1,402 in this popular local half.

He came in ahead of club-mates Jason Stallard (1:35.17) and Barbara Thomas (2:05.54). Sam Humphrey (Victoria Park Harriers) won in a competitive 1:09.40.

Great North Run

CIREN’S two representatives failed to trouble Mo Farah (Newham and Essex Beagles) as he ran a 1:00.00.

Terry Ranger (1:51.49) ran as quickly as crowded conditions allowed and Martin Croucher (2:22.01) dawdled and savoured the day. There were an amazing 41,551 finishers.

Alderton 5km

WENDY NICHOLLS finished second overall and set a new course record at the Alderton 5km in a competitive 18.16 behind winner, Elite triathlete Max Hazell (17.32). There were 92 finishers.

Meteor Mile

AT THE Meteor Mile, a one mile road race, young all-rounder Luke Buck finished 17th out of 68 in 6:06 and Lisa Carpenter was 35th in 7.02 behind winner Mark James (Severn AC) in 4.46.

Swindon Parkrun – 5km trails

THE runners from CAC reflected what the Parkrun is all about as Ed Morris (19.53), an ultra runner rather than a short distance specialist, proved his fitness by running a PB to finish in 23rd place.

Barbara Thomas (25.28) a Parkrun regular, once again came first in her 55-59 age-group. Young Tom Williams (28.38) ran his fourth Parkrun in the U10s but missed his PB by just one second while dad Adrian missed his by some 12 minutes.

Chris Reade (Swindon Harriers) won in 17.04 and there were 425 finishers.
