Batting first, the Town were given a rousing start by Andy Cooper who reached his half-century in the 13th over. He and Jimmy Woodcock shared a stand of 90 before both were caught, Cooper for 61 and Woodcock for 34.
Two more wickets fell cheaply, but a solid stand between Dominic Jeffcott (24) and Bram Coleman (35) kept the runs coming and when the 45 overs elapsed the Town had posted a challenging total of 179-7.
Coleman and Jake Holmes then took two wickets apiece as Newnham struggled to make headway in reply, Holmes being particularly miserly as his seven overs cost just nine runs.
